We know that if we want to get a solid or semi-solid when dyeing yarn, we need a large enough dye bath for the yarn to move around. We need the strands to all have equal access to the dye.<\/p>\n
But what happens if we don’t give the yarn any room at all to move around?<\/p>\n
That’s what we’re experimenting with this week on Adventures with Andi<\/a>. I put one skein of Dyer Supplier 75\/25 SW merino\/nylon fingering weight yarn in an oversized mason jar and crammed a second skein into a regular sized mason jar. Then I added the exact same amount of dye to each jar, filled them to the top with water, and let them sit for about a week before heat setting.<\/p>\n
